The first lot from Vietnam

Thirty years. Screening that still has to happen.

Grounds for Health turns thirty this year. The programs sit in Ethiopia and Kenya. More than 265,000 women have been screened for cervical cancer. More than 22,000 have had preventive treatment. The green coffee auction that funds that work opens Wednesday. Crop to Cup sent the first Vietnam lot the auction has ever listed. Great Cherry, in Dak Lak. An anaerobic natural robusta. One hundred thirty two pounds. Cupped at 86. Opening at 5.75 a pound. Justin Mool says the auction is how the industry keeps the connection going.

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, we hold that first lot to one pressure: whether the cup still pays for care at origin when a new room in San Francisco imports Europe, and when the drinker is still a guess.

SPRO Coffee Lab opened at 201 Spear Street, a few blocks from the Ferry Building. European style. Coffees from Barcelona, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris. Modbar. A Weber EG-1 for frozen coffee. Liza Otanes, with her husband, also built The Wild Fox. Japanese roasting partners. A Cup of Excellence Brazil at 105 dollars a cup. Cheryl Hung and Brian Gaffney launched Furthers and Betters because the industry knows the product and guesses at the person who drinks it. After the 7.4 earthquake near San José del Palmar, Jimmy Butler's Bigface and J Balvin put a 78 dollar bundle on El Capitán, net to Colombia Se Levanta. Houthis took Mokha, the port that named mocha. La Cimbali's Supera is rated for 350 cups a day. Sprudge's Roaster's Village would pick them all.

A first lot from Vietnam. Thirty years of screens. The fourth wave is not the auction catalog. It is whether the cup still pays for the woman at origin, and whether the room still names the farm.
